David & Jenny are an incredible couple – the story of how they came to be, and the road that lead to it are equally so. Through many twists, turns and the ever unexpected loop life brings David one day found himself sitting down to a table during a lunch break at a youth pastor’s conference. Across from him was beautiful brunette with sparkling eyes. Before he could think of a way to start conversation another person sat down and began to talk. As lunch drew to a close David scrambled to think of a way he could try to connect with the lovely lady across the table from him without (in his words) “being creepy.” Little did he know Jenny was hoping they would talk as well. They managed a few words to each other around their talkative table mate but that was about it. As they all stood up at the end of lunch David turned and asked what she thought of the conference AND for her email address since they didn’t have time to talk about it further. As he drove home he mentally berated himself for not thinking of something better, but a few days later he gathered his courage and shot her an email. A week or two later Jenny came home from their first date to tell call a friend saying “I just met the man I’m going to marry!” A few months, many dates and phone calls late into the night, David asked Jenny if she would be up for helping a photographer friend of his (me!) fill up her last winter mini-session. Jenny obligingly agreed and the wheels were set in motion for a perfect proposal. (You can see that here) Their wedding day was the opposite of that cold, February chill, but their love for each other had only grown and taken on dimension.Jenny dressed for the day amid laughter and quiet strains of worship music as her mom, sister and bridesmaids bustled around in anticipation. Exclamations over her grandmothers pearls, a quick text from David and funny little inside jokes filled the air. So much love and joy ran smack into each other the first moments they saw each other as Jenny’s father escorted her down the aisle. It’s been said we can’t truly understand the full height of joy without experiencing the depth of pain in life’s valleys. I’ve never watched a more perfect picture of that saying unfold as this moment. Jenny & David were married in the church where David works as a youth minister. Several talented young musicians whose lives David has impacted provided incredible music, after which David had a surprise for Jenny – instead of proceeding with vows he walked over and played this. Other mentors, family and friends participated in the ceremony and their love for David & Jenny tinged every word spoken, read and sung. After the ceremony we traveled to the nearby Harris Forest Preserve where their wedding party filled the next half hour with even more laughter – and snacks. It was the first time we’ve ever been offered scotch-a-roos while taking pictures! Seriously, if Jenny sat across from you, you’d want to talk to her too. Not just because kindness bubbles out of her friendly smile and the easy way she initiates conversation, but those eyes are amazing. David, you’re a blessed man! The new Mr. & Mrs. Thanepohn arrived at the Kendall County Fairgrounds and danced their way into a warm summer night. We stepped out for a few final photos as the sun begin to set and it was the perfect summation of their wedding day. Laughter. Joy. Contentment. Gratitude. We pray God continues to fill your lives increasingly with each of those attributes. We’re unbelievably happy for you! Congratulations!!!
High school sweethearts, best friends, husband & wife. Chris & Caitlyn have been a part of our family’s lives for the past 7 years. I’ve watched them grow, change and adapt as their relationship has endured each new challenge. Such an honor to have the chance to photograph this next step as they become a Mr. & Mrs.! As her mom, mother-in-law, sisters and friends bustled around her on the morning of her wedding, Caitlyn exuded joy in every excited glance and happy laugh. Chris & Caitlyn were joined by their hilarious wedding party and the celebrating that began with the excitement of getting ready in the morning, saying “I do” in the afternoon, and joking through photographs then stretched into hours of laughter and dancing the night away. Chris & Caitlyn’s families did an awesome job decorating the Kendall County Fairgrounds and after a great meal, some handcrafted treats and signature drinks, the Ethan Bell Band provided plenty of music and fun. Caitlyn’s grandmother made their cake and stocked the dessert table in lavish fashion. Chris & Caitlyn, we are beyond happy for you, may God bless you with many happy years and so many more adventures together.
Cody & Kelly have smiles that immediately light up a room – they are genuine and funny and LOVE their puppy, Harleigh. When Kelly called me and asked if it was ok for them to start their session in Cubs jerseys (Harleigh included) I knew we were going to have a great time. Cody & Kelly have been friends since high-school, but it wasn’t until much later that they started dating. Kelly smilingly said it was the most well-thought out decision of her life! Thoughtfulness seems to an underlying theme in their relationship – this February Cody created a treasure hunt for a date night with Kelly – each new clue a part getting ready for and eventually going on a memorable date. The very last letter she found asked her to marry him! I loved this story, but thought it was even sweeter after becoming friends on Facebook and seeing another one of Cody’s thoughtful date lists posted: (this isn’t my photo, but the man deserves applause for creativity!)When asked what they most appreciate about each other it was increasingly apparent how much they truly ‘get’ each other. From Cody two simple, direct sentences wrapped up the awesome heart Kelly has: “I appreciate her hard work and dedication towards anything she puts her mind to. She’s loving.” Kelly was equally direct, saying “I appreciate his support. He has always been there, for the good and the bad, and gives me his opinion. It may not be what I want to hear, but it will always make me feel better in the end!” Hard work, love and honesty – what better way could you embark on marriage? Sometimes you don’t need thousands of words, a few heart-felt ones say volumes. Cody & Kelly, your wedding day will be such an incredible celebration of the fantastic relationship you already have. We are unbelievably excited to have the chance to be there when you say the vows you already are living out!
Zach and Courtney have a deep appreciation and respect for each other. When you see them together, you can tell they have been together for a long time and are very comfortable in each others presence. Their wedding day was perfect for an outdoor ceremony. The sun was shining at Emerson Creek in Oswego, where Courtney, her maids, her mother, and her and Zach’s children (the adorable Grace and Jaxson) calmly prepared for the day together in the ‘Bridal Coop’. Grace was the flower girl and loved to refer to it as ‘her’ wedding day, and Jaxson made an adorable ring bearer.
Zach and his groomsmen were joking around, anxiously waiting for the ceremony to start. Zach’s excitement picked up even more when he saw Jaxon in his little man tux.
The intimate ceremony took place outside on the Emerson Creek grounds overlooking a pond surrounded by beautiful, serene prairie. Grace cried many happy tears watching her parents become husband and wife. They make such a beautiful family!
During cocktail hour the couple happily walked around the Emerson Creek grounds in their freshly wedded bliss. These are some of our favorites.
Courtney and her mom lovingly handmade beautifully personalized details, centerpieces and so much more. The reception barn was overflowing with tasteful decor, delicious food and a welcoming coffee bar and cupcake station. A beautiful sunset filled the sky with color and Mr. & Mrs. McCoy enjoyed a few more moments together before joining their friends and family in dancing the night away.
Zach and Courtney, it was an honor to be a small part of your wedding day. We are so happy for you and wish you great happiness in your lives together! Congratulations!

Ryan & Rachel are an incredible couple. Their steady, deeply considerate affection for each other resonates through every encounter you may be blessed to have with them and extends to the people around them. For more on their love story, click on over here. Their day began at the Stade home, filled with sunlight, laughter and the occasional happy tear. Rachel descended the stairs to the delighted smiles of her family and bridesmaids, before being whisked away to the church and her eager groom. The church was beautifully enhanced with some of our favorite flower arrangements ever – provided by Erin of Event Floral. After a heart-felt ceremony, the bride and groom made a quick get-a-way in a fantastic antique car. After formal church photos the bridal party was taken by an old fashioned Trolley and transported in style to the grounds of the Ellwood House for wedding photos. After a laughter-filled time of photos, the new Mr. & Mrs. climbed aboard the trolley with our final destination of Aquaviva Winery and a stunning reception. The entire day was meticulously coordinated by Amanda of La’Di Events and could not have been more seamless. The vineyard was just showing glimpses of a new summer’s crop – it was a perfect backdrop for the new couple to have a few quiet moments together. The Aquaviva dining room was candlelit, filled with flowers and overflowing with delicious smells and of course, wine! The night was filled with beauty and lots of dancing to the stellar sounds of Hey Jimmy – Rachel is a talented musician and the music at her wedding and reception reflected both impeccable taste and equally talented friends. Ryan & Rachel, thank you so much for sharing your wedding day with us, it was truly an honor and we pray God’s richest blessings in your new life together.
